Em to leave in February

Em to leave in February

Rev Em Coley, Vicar of Sandridge, made the following announcement at the end of yesterday morning's service:

"It is with rather mixed emotions that I share this with you. A mixture of excitement and sadness.

I have been appointed as National Young Vocations Officer and so will be leaving Sandridge and my Associate Director of Ordinands role in February.

My emotions are mixed because:

  • This has been an enormously happy place for all the family
  • We have been here for six years - longer than anywhere else in ministry
  • You have become like family

But the new job (National Young Vocation Officer) is a  job that involves consulting with and supporting Dioceses up and down the country to encourage and enable young people to discern God’s call on their lives.

It is a great opportunity that I am very excited about.

The plan is to rent a house in St Albans within walking distance of Townsend school (where Ellie goes).
I will be based in Church House in Westminster.

What does this mean for you?

  1. It’s all about you and your involvement; please pray about and talk to me or the  churchwardens about how you can serve God through St Leonard’s
  2. I have three months.  Let’s make this the best Christmas! And please know that as other elements of this dual role lessen, the parish is my priority – finding cover, ensuring the future is secure and so on.

Lastly – and slightly in advance – thank you to Jenny and Anne, our wardens who will shoulder a huge amount of the impact of me leaving especially as it’s so hot on the heels of Peter’s departure.

Please love them, ply them with coffee or wine and chocolate, and be assured of my prayers and my heartfelt fondness for this place.
